3 Homemade Serum for Hair Growth (Stimulate Your Hair With Herbs)

Rosemary Serum for Weak, Thinning Hair

What happens when you don’t exercise?

Big, comfy chairs might feel great to sit in all day long, but without any exercise your muscles don’t feel that good. They lose their tone and strength.

The result is unflattering “flabby arms and jiggly tummy’’. And who likes that?

The same happens with your hair. When you leave your scalp without any stimulation or nourishment, the hair gets weak, fragile and thin. So how do you strengthen weak, thinning hair??

Well, with the help of homemade serum.

What is a Homemade Serum?

When you have weak, thinning hair, applying a thick oil or lotion may disturb your already weak roots.

So for your hair to survive and thrive you need something gentle, yet effective. And what can be better than a homemade hair serum? A homemade serum is a watery infusion made with hair-nourishing herbs. The infusion process extracts all the amazing nutrients and helps strengthen your hair.

I have tried and tested 3 herbs that make the best serum for hair growth. Also, when you massage the serum on your scalp you mobilise the scalp, and it helps to boost the circulation and propels hair growth.

Here’s are 3 Most Effective Homemade Serums for Hair Growth

3 Homemade Serum for Hair Growth

1. Amla Serum for Strong, Thick Hair

In ayurveda, amla is said to be amrit (nectar) for hair. And it truly is…

Amla has extraordinary amounts of vitamin C and other antioxidants which help to slow hair loss and kick-start hair growth. Besides, massaging amla juice will increase volume and texture of hair and make them appear healthier and shinier.

Also, you scalp will be clean and clear of all the flakes and dandruff. You got to try this at least once.

To Make Amla Serum You Will Need:

  • 1 fresh amla
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (use extra virgin coconut oil)

The first step is to grate/blend the amla and extract its juice (discard the pit). I use a grater and squeeze out the juice (with your hand or use a sieve if you like). One amla will give you 1 to 1 ½ tablespoon of amla juice.

Place coconut oil and amla juice in a bowl. If the coconut oil is solid, then warm the mixture by placing the bowl in hot water – you will see it turns liquid in no time.

And your Amla Hair Growth Serum is ready.

2. Rosemary Serum to Stimulate Growth

Rosemary water for hair growth

Rosemary is another very useful remedy for weak and falling hair. It contains a unique substance called  ursolic acid which has potent anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antioxidants properties. As you may know, antioxidants help get rid of hair damaging free radicals. You don’t want too many free radicals build-up in your hair as they are responsible for thinning as well as greying.

Rosemary also boosts scalp circulation. This means more oxygen and nutrients will be delivered to hair roots, and that in turn promotes strong and healthy hair growth.

What’s more, rosemary conditions hair and adds luster and body to it. Plus, rosemary also helps to promote a healthy scalp, all thanks to its anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

To Make Rosemary Serum You Will Need:

  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary or 2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage leaves or 2-3 sprigs of fresh sage (optional, stimulates growth and softens hair)
  • 1 cup hot water

Bring the water to a boil. Place rosemary (and sage) in a jar/bowl, pour the hot water, cover and let it steep until cool.

Next, strain out the spent herbs.

How to use:

Massage the rosemary serum into your scalp and leave it on. It’s very light and will absorb nicely into the scalp.

If you think that it’s making your hair weighed down, then you can wash it out with plain water after an hour or so. Use 2-3 times a week. Store the remaining serum in the fridge, it will last a week

3. Green Tea Serum to Reduce DHT and Increase Shine

Green tea for hair growth

Green tea is a fantastic remedy to stimulate hair growth.

As most of us know, green tea has caffeine in it. And caffeine works in multiple ways to encourage growth. Firstly, it increases the micro-circulation in the scalp, bringing more nutrients to the hair follicles. Plus, caffeine also stimulates hair growth by inhibiting the production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) – the hormone that causes male and female pattern baldness.

Besides, green tea is a good source of panthenol, the famous hair vitamin often used in shampoos and conditioners to strengthen hair and make them appear glossy.

To make Green tea serum You Will Need:

  • 1 teaspoon loose Green Tea leaves or 1 Green Tea Bag
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Juice (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera Juice (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Hot Water

Bring the water to a boil. Place green tea in a jar/bowl, pour the hot water, cover and let it steep until cool. Strain and use.

You can also add a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice or aloe vera juice for extra boost. Mix with green tea and use.

How to use:

Massage the serum into your scalp and hair and let it sit for an hour or so. Then rinse with water.

Use 2-3 times a week. Store the remaining serum in the fridge, it will last a week.

Applying Tip: Use a squeeze/applicator bottle for easy application. You will find them at the beauty store or online
