Want hair like a film celebrity? Shiny, Bouncy and Voluminous.
Do what they doโฆ
Exercise.
Get beauty sleep.
Eat healthy.
And if all that is too much โ put egg on the hair.
It smells a little, but many celebs swear by this at-home beauty secret. Eggs are full of protein, which helps strengthen your hair while adding texture, shine and bounce to it.
Egg on its own is good for hair, but adding olive oil takes the hair mask to another level. The moisturising benefits of olive oil marry well with the strengthening effects of the egg. Olive oil makes hair soft, silky and smooth as well as keeps scalp dryness at bay.
Made with everyday kitchen ingredients โ Egg and Olive oil โ this mask will make your hair look amazing like you got it done at an expensive salon.
Benefits of Egg and Olive oil Hair Mask:
Before we see how to make the hair mask, letโs find out how eggs help with hair growthโฆ
Eggs are a rich source of protein, which serves as a โbuilding blockโ for our hair. The protein-rich egg will make the hair stronger and voluminous. Itโs especially beneficial for those with fine, thin or damaged hair.ย
But egg is also an excellent conditioner. All thanks to its fatty yolk. It deep conditions hair, improving its shine and softness. So if you got dry, dull hair, it will help you. Egg yolk also contains vitamin A, D, E, B12, pantothenic acid, zinc and biotin. All fabulous for healthy hair growth.ย
Whatโs more, if you are suffering from pattern baldness, egg may be the key to promoting new hair growth. A team of Japanese researchers found that the yolk of chickenโs egg contains โhair growth peptideโ, which can stimulate hair follicles and improve growth in those with female pattern hair loss.ย
Egg Mask has helped my sister regrow lost hair due to hypothyroidism. Of course, I canโt say enough how important it is to eat veggies, beans and pulses, but applying a hair mask has its benefits. My sisterโs hair is wavy and on the dry side. This mask adds body, texture and shine to her hair.
She uses it weekly to maintain and restore her hair. She even convinced me to try this mask. Egg is something I was very reluctant to put on. Although I love eggs โ for breakfast โ the idea of putting it on my hair was not very appealing. But my sisterโs huge praises for this mask finally convinced me.
And I liked it. After the egg mask my straight-ish hair had more volume and appeared fuller and thicker. They looked fab. I donโt use it as regularly, may be once a month is good for me.
Well, it will depend on your hair โ whether itโs dry, oily, normal or combination.
This is what each component of the egg has to offer:
Egg yolk = fatty acids = adds moisture and softness to hair
Egg white = protein = adds strength and texture to your hair
If your hair is dry, brittle, using an egg yolk hair mask (minus the egg white) is an excellent way to condition and nourish your hair. And those with very oily hair can make the mask with egg white, as it helps to remove excess oil from the hair as well as add volume and thickness to hair. And if your hair is normal or combination, use a whole egg.
For the basic mask, you only need egg yolk and olive oil. But you can add extra moisturising ingredients like honey, avocado, yogurt, or almond milk.
Place egg yolk, olive oil, honey, etc., in a bowl and mix well. You can add 2-3 tablespoons of water to thin out the mixture.
If using an avocado, blend it to a puree before adding.
Start with dry hair. Apply to your hair, from roots to tips. Place a shower cap or wrap an old towel to avoid dripping. Let the mask soak in for 15-45 minutes.
Then rinse it out. Be sure to use cool or lukewarm water so the egg doesnโt cook in your hair. Next, shampoo lightly and towel dry your hair.
You can apply your favourite leave-in conditioner at this stage. It will help seal the moisture, and when your hair dries, it will look shiny and vibrant.
How often to apply: Once a week or once every 15 days.
If you got oily, normal or combination hair (oily roots and dry ends), use whole egg โ both egg white and yolk. Again, for the basic mask, use just the egg and olive oil. For an extra boost, use the optionals given below.
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. You can add 2-3 tablespoons of water to thin out the mixture.
Use lime juice if you have very oily hair or excess product build-up. And coconut milk if you have dry ends.
Start with dry hair. Apply to your hair, from roots to tips. Place a shower cap or wrap an old towel over to avoid dripping. Let the mask soak in for 15-45 minutes.
Then rinse it out. Be sure to use cool or lukewarm water so the egg doesnโt cook in your hair. Next, shampoo lightly and towel dry your hair and leave it to dry naturally.
If you got dry ends or fly away hair, apply a small amount of coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner to make hair smooth and tidy.
Your newly moisturised hair will look shiny, healthy and bouncy.
How often to apply: Once a week
