Head Massage And Get Beautiful Hair Challenge

Head Massage and get beautiful hair

ย

Head massage is the best therapy for hair. It boosts Hair Growth and reduces hair loss.

Autumn months are not very kind on hair. October is the worst of all. The dryness in the air and a drop in temperature can cause more than usual hair loss. Plus, this weather may also slow the hair growth and make hair dry and dull.

I donโ€™t want this autumn to ruin our hair. And thatโ€™s why the head massage challengeโ€ฆ (more about the challenge below)

Why Head Massage

  1. It increases scalp circulation, bringing with it oxygen and hair nourishing nutrients. This makes hair grow luxurious, thick, soft and glossy.
  2. It helps to detox the scalp.
  3. It also helps you avoid dry flaky scalp โ€“ which is one of the major problems of dry weather.
  4. Gentle and rhythmic massage has been shown to decrease the stress hormones in the body. And lower stress levels allow your body to function more efficiently โ€“ this also includes your hair follicles.
  5. Plus, itโ€™s replenishing for dry, damaged hair, and helps prevent excessive brittleness and split-ends.

How often should you head massage

I usually head massage once a week. But, since the beginning of October I have increased it to three times a week. So once a week I head massage with the oil and the other two times without the oil.

Once a week is a good start, twice is optimum, and anything more is a bonus. See what works best for you.

Which oils are best for head massage

During the autumn and winter months, oil massage is especially recommended in ayurveda to reduce the dryness and provide lubrication and nourishment to the scalp. The best oils for the colder months are:

  1. Sesame oil
  2. Avocado oil
  3. Almond oil
  4. Ghee* (clarified butter)
  5. Jojoba oil

You can also add a few drops of essential oils such as chamomile, holy basil (tulsi), rose geranium, sandalwood, or sweet orange to balance the dryness. (add 3 to 5 drops to 1 tablespoon of base oil).

*Ghee fact: Ghee is highly revered in the Indian culture. Both eating ghee and applying it on hair is said to make hair strong and healthy.

How to head massage

Apply the oil on the scalp in sections. Massage gently using your finger pads. Make sure you cover all areas. I also like to tap all over my scalp with my fingers โ€“ this is very relaxing and energising. Finish byย running fingers through your hair.

Yes, itโ€™s that simple. It shouldnโ€™t take more than 10 minutes. And if you can do it even once a week itโ€™s good.

Just focus on the nourishing process and imagine your hair getting healthier, stronger and shinier.

You can let the oil sit for an hour, or overnight for better conditioning.

I sometimes use a wooden comb or brush to massage my scalp. Itโ€™s also very relaxing and soothing on the scalp.

Those of you with very dry hair, just spray some water on your hair (or lightly damp your hair), then apply oil. This will help the oil penetrate deeper inside.

Tip: When head massaging, focus on the center of your head, which is most likely to receive less blood supply.

Get Beautiful Hair Challenge

Ok, so I have never done this before but I am very excited about this challenge.

Itโ€™s simple. I am keeping track of three things and you can also track one or all the three things below:

  1. Hair fall โ€“ letโ€™s see if extra massaging will help to keep the hair fall low.
  2. Dryness โ€“ this is my biggest worry during autumn months. My skin and scalp become really dry. I have also up my intake of nuts and seeds, which help you avoid the dry scalp.
  3. Hair growth โ€“ my hair grows the slowest in autumn. I am going to record hair growth through pictures and tape measure.
